The arts, music and theatre also thrive on Sanibel. For more on the art galleries, the music festivals and the musical programs of Sanibel, see http://www.sanibel-captiva.org/play/arts.asp.
Swimming, fishing, windsurfing opportunities abound on Sanibel and 25 miles of paved trails provide a great venue for biking, running and walking.
Fine golf facilities can also be found on the island. See www.beachviewgolfclub.com and www.dunesgolfsanibel.com
Access to Sanibel could hardly be more convenient. The Southwest Florida International Airport, just outside Fort Myers and 35 minutes from Sanibel Island, is served by six national airlines and other regional and international carriers.

is a unique barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, about 12 miles long, with no high rise buildings and many areas preserved in their natural state. From the Fort Myers causeway near the island’s Eastern end, Sanibel extends to Captiva, a sister island to the West. Along the way the island provides a multitude of attractions for everyone.
The wide sandy Gulf of Mexico beaches, facing South, are known world wide for the abundance, beauty and diversity of shells found there. For more on the beaches and shelling, see http://www.sanibel-captiva.org/play/beaches.asp.
Sanibel is also known for its many conservation areas including the 5,000 acre “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, home to over 200 species of birds, 50 species of reptiles, 32 species of mammals and one crocodile. For more on the wildlife refuge, see dingdarling.fws.gov
